Matthew hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and is a graduate of Indiana University’s School of Journalism. After a decade-long career in sales and marketing he discerned a call to ordained ministry, graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary. Matthew taught religion at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, served parishes in Alexandria, Virginia, and was Associate Rector at St. Alban’s in Washington D.C. before coming to St. Martin’s.
He is married to Katie Glover and between the two of them they share four children, one rabbit and two ducks.
HyeSung directs all music related ministries at St. Martin’s, as well as serving as organist and pianist. She plans and conducts the weekly and special services, leading the adult and hand bell choirs. Prior to joining St. Martin’s in 2017, she served as the Music Director at Church of the Holy Nativity in Baltimore City. Born in Seoul, South Korea, HyeSung earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University. After moving to Baltimore in 2005, she received a Master of Music, Graduate Performance Diploma, as well as the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. In addition to her ministry at St. Martin’s she teaches at York College of Pennsylvania in both the college and preparatory divisions.
HyeSung enjoys spending time with her husband and cat, as well as cooking, eating and traveling.
Kathleen joins St.-Martin’s in-the-field as a seminarian doing Contextual Ministry (essentially an internship – but really so much more). She is in her second year at Virginia Theological Seminary, known as the “Middler” year as it is the second of three years in the program. Kathleen is a self-professed “church nerd” having a strong faith and desire to be in service to God and the church. While Kathleen, her wife Margaret and their twin sons, Jonathan and Martin, have lived in Maryland for the past 14 years she has her roots in the Midwest and Northeast. Kathleen grew up in Milwaukee, WI, went to college and graduate school in Michigan, and has lived in New York, New Hampshire, and Minnesota. Her background is in Student Affairs and she worked for 25 years in residence life, judicial affairs, and student organizations before discerning a call to ordination as a priest. The Schotto family call St. Bartholomew’s in Baltimore City their home parish and they live in Pikesville, MD with their two cats.
In her free time (which is limited since starting seminary) Kathleen loves to read anything she can get her hands on, walking, being with her family, spending more time on Facebook than she probably should and is an amateur photographer.
We are sad to say that Hilary will be leaving St. Martin’s as of Friday, July 16, 2021. During her time here Hilary has helped streamline office efficiency and communications with our Episcopal school parents all with her great sense of humor. With grateful hearts for our time together we wish Hilary all the best on her next endeavor.
As we say goodbye to Hilary we hope to soon say hello a new parish administrative assistant with solid computer skills who is adept at multitasking and working with diverse groups of people. Responsibilities include producing our various worship bulletins, scheduling Sunday worship leaders, maintaining office records and the membership database, overseeing office facilities, and supporting our clergy and ministry leaders. 20-24 hrs./week. Amber handles the church’s marketing and communication needs, such as the newsletter, website, livestream worship services and social media. She also handles the calendar, reserving space on our campus for meetings and various events. Maryland born and bred, Amber received a degree in Corporate Communications from the University of Baltimore. She has over 20 years of professional experience in marketing, advertising and graphic design. Being an involved member of the community has always been important to Amber, she is a member of the Anne Arundel County chapter of AAUW, volunteers at her children’s school, and participates in various other outreach programs.
Jory Bender, Bookkeeper
Jory records the church’s financial transactions, processes payments, conducts banking activities and produces various financial reports. She comes from a background in both for profit and non-profit business. Jory joined her family business, which was started in 1898 by her great-grandfather, in 1990. She then went on to own the business until 2013. From then Jory has devoted her time in the non-profit world working for the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Arundel Lodge, and The Light House Shelter.
Jory is a native of the area, growing up in Arnold and attending Severna Park High School many years ago. She is a mother of four children, triplets plus one. They attended nursery school at the pre-school at St. Martin’s-in-the-field and her mother-in-law was a devoted parishioner.
Jory is very involved fostering animals for the local shelters, loves to be on the water or hiking the local trails and hanging out with her grandsons.
Chris Mitzel, Facilities Manager
Chris is responsible for keeping St. Martin’s buildings and grounds clean and orderly in addition to performing basic maintenance and repairs as needed. Chris brings his experience in building maintenance, construction and security awareness to this job. He is also talented in the kitchen, so see if he will part with a favorite recipe.
Reita Turro, Nursery Director
Our Nursery is staffed by Ms. Reita Turro who, as nationally accredited with the National Association of Family Child Care and licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education, serves our youngest children and their parents on Sundays.
